Hercules – In The Alleyway
Hercules are Peter Baldwin (Philadelphia) and Ben Sumner (Denver) but they were both knocking around New England when I moved up here. They took seemingly forever to make this album, using all manner of ill chosen gizmos, but it was worth it. Gordon Zacharias (Fan Modine) provides beautiful vocals. I met him when he was living above the Bay State Hotel (sadly RIP – the flop house not Gordon) in a state of old school, and rather charming r’n’r squalour. I’m sure some of that has rubbed off onto this collection. My wife played this record every day for about three years and I still don’t hate it. She has one song as her ring tome now and I still don’t hate it. That is one resilient album.
