Karen Dalton - In My Own Time

$15.00 USD

I bought this album last year after hearing ‘Something On Your Mind’ on a compilation CD David Bates made of the best of 2007 (this album had been long out of print until the excellent Light In The Attic re-released it) and I was completely blown away. I think it might be my favourite recording by anyone. If you’ve seen me at all in concert over the last year or so it it is the first song played during the intermission, and I never tire of it. Karen’s singing is mesmerizing and the arrangement is heavy yet tender – no folk whimsy here. But enough of my thoughts. Here are a few other quotes -

“My favorite singer in the place was Karen Dalton. Karen had a voice like Billie Holiday’s and played the guitar like Jimmy Reed.” – Bob Dylan

“She is my favorite female blues singer.” – Nick Cave

“Without a doubt, she is my favorite singer.” – Devendra Banhart

“She sure can sing the shit out of the blues.” – Fred Neil
